The Network Edinburgh, now more commonly known and referred to as TNE, is a networking group which is rapidly expanding and wishes to invite likeminded people to join and expand TNE’s reach and influence. We are effectively based in Edinburgh but have many members out with the City and across the UK. TNE is a network born of ex-military Officers who have started their second careers in a realm of different industries be it blue chip, businesses of their own, investment, renewable energy, consultancy, training and development, recruitment, photography, web based business and the like. The aim of TNE is to expand beyond the ex-military Officer population and include likeminded colleagues and friends who have a wealth of business experience to add. As with every network the value added and the value gained is determined by the willingness of every individual member to bring something to the party and thus create benefit for both TNE collectively and the individual. Julian McElhinney and Nicholas Burnet co-founded TNE partly as a result of their own experiences in leaving Her Majesty’s Armed Forces and making the transition into commercial life but also in recognition of the value, benefit and importance networking holds in both one’s professional and business lives. Networking is a skill which can always be improved upon and refined according to the group and audience, whether it be for a Service Leaver, a recent graduate and just as importantly, if not more so, as a new comer to an environment. Networking is an efficient and easy manner in which to expand one’s own contacts, knowledge and appreciation of other industries and opportunities. There are three key focuses to TNE:
*The Service Leaver we define as any Officer or Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) from HM Forces, who is considering leaving, is leaving or has already left and is looking for that elusive network which is both formal and informal for advice, guidance and contacts to help them make that big or next step in civilian life. We hold our networking meetings once every six weeks to two months, centrally in Edinburgh during after work hours and more often than not based out of The Royal Scots Club on Abercromby Place in the New Town. Meetings tend to last two hours from circa 1800-2000. We are closely linked to The Officers Association and continue to work with OA Scotland almost on a weekly basis. Our membership is increasing and as TNE becomes more known we are finding both more ex-military and non-military joining us and adding value to what we do. We keep a central database of members who are willing to be contacted by anyone in terms of advice and guidance. TNE is also represented on www.Linkedin.com which is a useful professional networking site and can be used to contact any TNE member. If you know of any like minded souls who would be interested or benefit from joining The Network Edinburgh (TNE) do invite them to join us. If you are interested or simply curious feel free to call or email one of us, our contact details are: Julian McElhinney – 07712000442 /
