At the invitation of His Grace, The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, Major General James Cowan, CEO of The HALO Trust will give a lecture on military history in the dramatic setting of Drumlanrig Castle, on 25th May 2017.
General Cowan’s lecture, entitled ‘Waterloo Revisited’, is a unique commentary on the conduct of war over the last 200 years. It is being delivered in aid of two charities: The HALO Trust and Waterloo Uncovered, a charity which supports soldiers suffering from PTSD by involving them in archaeology at the battlefield of Waterloo.
Two years after the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo, after much hype and many history books, James Cowan looks back at Waterloo. From the soldiers, through the equipment, the personalities, the politics, to the aftermath, James will draw on his study of the battle as an Oxford historian and his career as a senior British officer serving in some of the most pressured of modern times.
Tickets cost £25 each. Half the proceeds go to The HALO Trust, the world’s largest NGO clearing the debris of war. HALO employs 6,750 people in 19 countries, making it Scotland’s largest NGO, by number of employees. Its headquarters is on the Drumlanrig estate, near Thornhill. The other half will go to Waterloo Uncovered.
The talk will run from 7.00 to 8.30pm, including Q&A with the General. There will be complimentary drinks from 6.30pm. To book tickets email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01843 331100.
