Organisational Grants

Scotland's OA have expanded their welfare provision to provide financial grants to support Scottish charities who assist veterans. To be eligible for funding they must include officers and their dependents based in Scotland among the beneficiaries or have the potential to do so.

Our funding is now CLOSED and shall open again in July 2025

We have widened the scope of our grants and we are now pleased to be able to offer funding for Revenue or Capital costs over one or multiple years. The funding options shall consist of:
  1. £25,000 for one year
  2. £15,000 a year for 2 years
  3. £10,000 a year for 3 years
Grants are restricted to organisations which are recognised as charitable by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) or the Charity Commission for England and Wales.  Grants are made in good faith but progress reports on the use of the donation will be required from recipients along with copies of the latest accounts for as long as a particular donation is valid.  On occasions, follow up visits may be required to view progress.

Key Principles

  • When making funding decisions a key requirement will be the ability of the applicant to have an impact on disadvantage, need or realisation of potential with their ultimate beneficiaries
  • We will have funding awards that enable us to respond flexibly to application for support from charities throughout Scotland, irrespective of their size or location.  We will take particular care to meet the needs of grass-roots charities
  • Each of our awards will be subject to an appropriate level of monitoring and evaluation which we will analyse and use to inform future funding decisions
  • We will share the learning from our work with policy makers, practitioners and charities and encourage its adoption

In 2018  OA Scotland supported 3 charities.
  • Armed Services Advice Project (ASAP)
  • SSAFA
  • Royal Caledonian Education Trust
In 2019 we are delighted to have supported 4 fantastic charities
  • Horseback UK
  • Fares 4 Free
  • Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Co
  • ASAP

“Your donations allowed us to deliver a valuable outreach programme to thousands of veterans across Scotland”

Fares4Free is a 4-year-old charity that provides free transport to help Veterans access important services and combat loneliness.

Started by a Glasgow taxi driver, who loved to chat to his passengers, he recognised a need and so from his first trip in April 2016, journeys across Scotland have varied from those for older veterans visiting their spouse in care, trips to Combat Stress, foodbanks, cancer treatments, to activities and confidence building journeys and destinations that help fight social isolation. Relying on one minibus and the goodwill of fellow taxi drivers Fares4free applied to OA Scotland for the funds to purchase another vehicle.
“This vehicle has helped transform our service. At a moment’s notice we can now help 16 passengers travel, including those who may need disabled access. It has enabled us to expand our reach and this will make a huge difference to our ability to support many more from the veteran’s community across Scotland.”
